Ulla Knuuttila

Ulla Knuuttila

Originally from Kuopio, Ulla Knuuttila has now returned to Finland – where she particularly appreciates the peace and quiet of the Finnish forests – after many years spent in Germany. She holds a Master’s degree in the viola and chamber music after long and highly-committed studies at the Sibelius Academy, in Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich. Her main teachers along the way have included Pirkko Simojoki, Roland Glassl, Andreas Willwohl and Eberhard Feltz.

Ulla enjoys making music in a variety of line-ups, from small chamber groups to large symphony orchestras, and has experience of all of these both at home in Finland and abroad. She has been the soloist with the Oulu Symphony, Lapland Chamber, Tampere Philharmonic and other orchestras, and there is a special place in her heart for early music and the soft sound of a Baroque viola. Ulla joined the viola section of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in autumn 2022.
